New Inventions and Assistive Technology
To be a member of DAN you must have a Disability, or be a member of a Native American Tribe or member of an Alaska Native Indian Tribe or be Homeless. Artists who meet any of these qualifications who live in any country qualify. At this time, this site is completely voluntary. It has no funding. It is not a nonprofit and it is not a foundation. For now, advertising space will be available to help pay bills and paypal for those who wish to make a voluntary gift. Licensing your Art
When funding allows, there will be opportunities to license your art. Licensing is a great way to sell your art. It allows you to keep the rights to any or all of your art work. Licensing means you sell a limited number of "rights to copy" any artistic creation you have for which you receive royalties. The person or parties that licenses your artwork has to pay for the copy work, materials, storage, selling, distribution and everything involved with that. It can be quite costly to do that with just one piece of art. Licensing deals don't come often and the royalty's are usually small. However, the artist should ask for a reasonable sum up front as well as royalty's. This site is dedicated to my deceased Uncle DAN whom you can read about here.

About being a Member Currently there are no employees or volunteers. Dan is quite large and can take a while to complete all the tasks. To find out where things stand you can go to this page: Sitemap for DAN I used to have skype but have decided not to do that any longer for the time being. Again, it is about time productivity. My main goal is to be able to help as many artists as possible and maintenance and promotion of the site take quite a bit of time. We used to forward Jokes to each other but with more then 75 Artists it could take hours to forward them in one day and this was really too much for people as some people have very limited time and energy. Socialize and make Friends. Our new social network will allow you to post any jokes, stories or blog's you wish and other members can visit with each other and share them there. Art Foundations and Galleries may also seek you out there so it can be advantageous to join. Free sign up is at http://www.Orkut.com To make this site accessible to as many people as possible DAN is designed to be fast loading. The reason for this is many people with disabilities are on a very limited income. Most people with disabilities in the USA live on less then $700.00 a month. Some live on even less and other's in foreign countries even less then that. After paying for housing, utilities, food, transportation and medicine there's not much left. Many have older computers with slow or single core processors. Someone somewhere may be using equipment made prior to 1999. The old computers can process just one thing at a time so it might take minutes to load a page with images. Dial up is probably being used as well. For this reason all the images on these pages are small. Usually less then 500 kb. Once a page has quite a few images on it a new page is created for the artist who has multiple work. This site will probably never have fancy flash or video but it will be as fast loading as possible and accessible. When you submit your images do not worry if they are too large. I will resize them for your webpage. However be sure to include the size of the image and the media used. Example: Title of artwork. Size in inches or feet. Media used. Weight if applicable. Date it was created. Be sure your copyright and signature are on your artwork. This page was recreated on May 16, 2010

Getting the most out of your Career or Hobby. Creating Art can be inspiring, healing, & therapeutic. It is a passion and sometimes a driving force for many Artists. Some simply want a place to say "I was here". "This is my Art and the soul of my existence". Other's look at is a means to make a living. Some see it as both. Some of the things that potential customers look for when purchasing art are: "Passion" What does that painting convey to that person? Does it make them remember something important to them? Does it stick in there mind, haunting them or inspiring them? It is extraordinarily beautiful? Interesting? What kind of a feeling does the art piece convey? This type of customer looks for there art to evoke a feeling in them. Some people will purchase art and put it on there wall simply for the joy of shocking there visitors and getting a feeling out of them. "Purpose" This is a more technical type of art purchase. Customers of this type of art usually purchase art for a specific purpose. For example, to match there decor. A necklace to match a dress. A painting or digital work to match an event such as a fundraiser. A lot of commissioned art can easily go in this category as well. "Involved & Connected" These type of art purchases are just like it says. The purchaser not only wants to purchase some beautiful artwork they also want to connect with the artist. I have seen some artists sell lots of work based on there involvement and connection to there customer. The customer is often fascinated by the artist as much as the art. There is usually something very intriguing and special about the artist that leaves a lasting impression on the buyer. These types of artists usually end up in history books and there art usually ends up in museums and in the ownership of collectors. "They are the ones you never forget". Selling Art at Galleries or for nonprofits. If you are a new Artist and are just getting established it is important to get your name and work out there. Having a page on this site is just one step that will establish a worldwide audience. Donating to nonprofits is a good way to get some recognition and establish your name. Doing this once or twice is usually enough. Some of the better organizations offer to pay a percentage of the sale back to the Artist. Some Artists will get several requests to donate artwork. A lot of these organizations are not aware that the Artist is trying to supplement there income or make a living so it is up to you to let them know if you feel you are being taken advantage of. Entering contests is another great way to establish your artistic reputation. Especially Juried contests. Joining other sites and having multiple links back to your page on DAN is another great way to establish your artistic reputation. Make sure you have the URL to your page in the signature of all your email and on all your other sites and blogs. Galleries typically charge a commission of about 50% to sell your art. When you consider the high price they pay for rent, taxes and employees as well as the amount of time it may take to sell art it really is not unreasonable. Art shows, festivals and events typically charge a fee to hang your art. Some charge a small amount and others more. Having a booth at an event typically costs more. People who host these events often stop by DAN and email the info. You can view events here:
