The Hopi People are very
private and do not like a lot of attention. The Native American Hopi Art
created by Artist Teri A. Davis is in honor and memory of the Hopi Indian's who
were her friends and protector's as a small child while living on their
reservation.
At that time and in
those darkest hours Teri was under the control of her father who was quite mad.
His evil and sadistic torture of her was guessed by the kind and caring Hopi
People's. While they were not able to rescue her physically from him they
did protect her spiritually in the secret ways that only the Hopi may know.
Artist Teri A.
Davis spent many years recovering from the Trauma caused by her father's
sadistic torture's. Year's and years of counseling and therapy
helped this courageous Woman deal with her past and create a better future.
The harder her father tried to bend her will to his evil , the harder Teri bent
her will and devotion to God. Very Recently Teri told me about memories
and dreams of the Hopi Indians and her Art that reflects that experience.
Although she was adopted by the Hopi , it was never official or recorded.
In some ways we are not
connected to each other by blood but by spirit. Were it not for the Hopi
Indians and their wise and generous kindness to this little girl by sharing of
their spirit, Teri probably never would have survived her father's madness
and sadistic torture's.
The first thing the Hopi
did for Teri was to give her a Sacred Hopi Indian Name. This name was
"Eyes of Many Souls".
Multiple Personality Disorder and Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder can happen to any person who has been severely
traumatized. Drawing and reflecting on the Hopi People and her memories of
their ways has been therapeutic in many ways and was one of Teri's favorite
Artistic Subject Matter.
The Kachina Dolls in a drawing are very
important as the Kachina Doll is a symbol that holds great spiritual
significance. Kachina is the Guardian and "Other World" Doorway. In
the special drawings below you will find special significance and spiritual
meaning to the Hopi Art created by Teri Davis. Many of these drawings came
to Teri in Dreams. The Amulets also have special significance and
meaning through dreams by the Artist.
In her own Words Artist Teri Davis
shares this Hope with all;
"This page is very personal, but I think it important to let people know someone
can first survive, and then heal and be functional and giving in society. I am
not ashamed of who I am, I am proud to be a survivor. Teri A Davis Eyes of Many
Souls".
Sirius is the star known as the "Dog Star". Katchina's dance around the Red Dog Spirit. I believe this drawing has very special significance and meaning.
"Original Hand Carved Amulet"
Some of the Drawings and Carvings have an almost "Egyptian" feel to them such as this Amulet. A mystery for the adept to solve.
