. ''Artist Jeanette Purkis" I have Asperger's Syndrome. Although this has no negative effects that I am aware of in my abilities as an artist, it does give me some problems in other areas of my life.
My goals as an artist are to have my work represented by a commercial gallery one day and perhaps to teach at university level I make videos, paintings and installations using a variety of found materials, such as old snapshots and domestic objects. Most of my projects and works deal with ideas arising from my somewhat dubious personal history. I use personas who in some way represent me, such as the "Reformed Character". I often use text in painting and installations, that deals with such themes as criminality, drug use, lesbian sexuality and involvement with far left political groups. Most of the materials I use are impoverished. materials such as pen, pencil, post-it notes, and old photos. Of course, I also use mini-DV tapes and DVD's in my video productions. |
