Hi my name is Deborah Johnston. I
am 43 - a disAbled artist and setting up a website to sell my art and
use the proceeds build a low-cost or free Spiritual Retreat Center -
the initial information about the Retreat Center can be found here:
I have only one child - a 23 year
old daughter who is married and living in Las Vegas and whom I
sometimes stay with (as I am doing now). The rest of the time I travel
around with a friend of mine looking for the 'right place' to build a
retreat which is our shared Dream.
My friend and I are both INFJ and
HSP (Highly Sensitive Persons). A Retreat Center seems the natural
thing for us to create together. My only support at this time is
Social Security Disability as it has been since my brain injury. I
have no other family to speak of.
I was injured in 1996 by a patient
- I was a previously mental health nurse and I took care of terminally
ill patients before that. I am now permanently disabled with a chronic
condition known as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. I continue to have
sometimes severe physical disabilities that prevent me from leading a
'normal work life'. I spent some three years in a wheelchair and
hospital bed in excruciating pain until I nearly died in 1999 and then
had a rather miraculous recovery. Unable to really speak or read or
communicate those first few years, I used the internet to re-educate
myself since 1999. I am a typical Hermit in many senses still.
Before my injury I had a Life.
After my injury I have discovered another Life entirely.
Poetry and the glass and Native
American style Art are the only creative outlets I have had available
since I became ill. I learned a lot about Computers and do some work
in that field as well when it is called for.
I have been a Computer Tutor for
all subjects Internet and Security and Web Design and free Commercial
Site creation for the last several years. Using the Internet to learn
and relearn many things has been a Great way for me to recover from my
brain injury. My Computer Site can be found at:
Lampworking is something I can do
at home at any hour of the day when I feel able.
I learned to blow glass and lamp
work about three years ago in Colorado - my teacher/friend taught me
to make Roses and the rest is History. I have found something that I
truly Love to do and have a natural gift for doing - and a positive
focus for the proceeds from it which is also most important to us.
