Read Surveys taken by Artists and written by Laurie Homan Before concentrating on her Art Career Ms. Homan graduated from the Monmouth Police Academy and served her community for many years. In addition to serving her community, Laurie has many skills and accomplishments that include being a "National Karate Champion", a "Pastor", a "Musician", "Writer", "Legal Secretary" and much much more. In l994 a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis brought permanent disability by 1998. Laurie found that painting brings her peace and therapeutic like healing. Optic Neuritis caused her to loose her vision more than 5 times. When there is a reprieve she paints. Assistive devices such as a leg brace, cane or wheelchair help with mobility. With love, care and assistance of her partner, Laurie is Mom to three adopted babies who were drug babies, but who now have a loving home environment. "My goal as an artist is to create pieces of art that can share the experiences and lessons I have learned. I have gone through a great deal
and I am a better person for it. I want to be a light in this dark world.
I am proof that the human spirit can sustain a great deal of difficulty
and still go on to create beauty. I want to be an example for others. I started painting in Oct 2000 using oils. Over the past 5 years, I have tried Ink, Acrylics, and mixed media. I am currently working mostly with mixed media and my work is varied. I have a realism series I'm working on called "Perfidy". Landscapes in various mediums, as well as abstract work. I use brushes, sponges, & rubbing alcohol with inks & liquid acrylics
